Microsoft has generously provided me, Patrick Santry owner of WWWCoder.com (and also other MVPs) licenses to give away for Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite with MSDN Premium Subscription. Here's information on how you can one of these giveaways.

Microsoft has generously provided me, Patrick Santry owner of WWWCoder.com (and also other MVPs) the opportunity to give away Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite with an MSDN Premium Subscription. Here's information on how you can get one of these giveaways.

So here's the deal. Tell me in about 100 words why you need one of these licenses. Beg, plead, whine, cry, just justify why you want this license. You must need and be able to use the software in order to receive it. You can make comments up until Feb. 5, at which time no more comments will be considered. Please use the comments form below to make your comments.

Comments will then be judged and the recipient determined. Oh yeah, you have to register first so I know who you are, no anonymous comments will be considered. Comments: As i am a Microsoft Certified Minesweeper Proffessional and Solitare Expert i will be definitely euphoric to become a REAL developer :), actually i am developing with eVC 3.0 and 4.0 and it would mean a tremendous boost in efficiency to get a VS licence for mobile development!

Comments: Wow, what a great opportunity! If you live on a really tight budget then you already know why a free copy of VS would be even better than terrific. Currently VS 2005 Standard is helping me out as I try to pick up some spare change writing and selling shareware on the side. Its also something I love to do and a hobby that helps me stay at home with my wife and kids at night. To date, however I’m working for about a penny an hour ?. This upgrade would really be great; for one thing I would be able to look at changing my app into a service and that would be very helpful. Comments: VSTS will enhance my productivity as a prive sub-contracted work. My career is based on effective communication from the assignment of my tasks, to debugging, ntesting, and completion. VSTS along with Team Foundation Server enables me to communicate with coleagues without excel file or email tag. My work is present there and ready. My current standard edition can not effectivly communicate with the rest of the team, so i am left out of the loop and work twice as hard to keep up. This this time saving along makes it an effective choice. Along with that comes the premier subscribtion which will allow me to quickly and effectivly stay on top of my team, my field, my carrer. Sorry if it's more than 100 words. I have to say, this is a wonderful thing you have presented here and should thank MCSFT and yourself for such an oppertunity.

Not only is Visual Studio the best development tool out there, but it also is the only way for me to keep playing with all the new and exciting technologies that Microsoft is bringing out in the rest of this year: Windows Workflow, Domain Specific Languages, Atlas, Communication Foundation, SharePoint 2006, Office 12, Windows Vista, Biztalk 2006 and more. Please help me keep my Microsoft technology knowledge up to date so I can keep convincing people that Microsoft has the best products available.

Comments: My company collapsed on 9/11 and except for some short-term work I've used up all my finances. I've decided to get out of the consulting business and switch to being an ISV with 2 very solid projects on the table. With no money I've had to rely on Express which isn't cutting it. Comments: I started working on .NET since it was given free in 2000 through MSDN magazine subscription. I am addicted to it. To my luck, I joined a .NET project, which used beta versions until official .NET was released in 2002. Then onwards I never worked on any other products, platforms other than .NET. To my luck I always got my MSDN Subscription through my employers. But recently I started developing something on my own and I can not afford to have ordinary MSDN subscription with my financial position. I make decent money but that would not be sufficient and I have to forgo some of the stuff for sometime if I buy one myself. In order to support my research and development using .NET I need a full subscription like premier. I can not use my employers after office hours. So if you could consider me as a prominent receiver of free VSTS/MSDN Premier Subscription that would be really great, and I swear that I would be thankful to you for this until I take my last breath. Comments: I'm a freelance programmer. I've been working from home for last 3 years. Normally i used Beta version of the .NET products to develop projects (2002 & 2003). Currently I'm using VS 2005 Express editions to develop my projects. My main problem is funding. I'm not in a position to buy VS.NET 2005 products. I'm planning to setup a small IT compamy with 2-3 developers in near future. If you consider me, it will be very greatfull to my carrer and future. Thank you.

Comments: You might have gone throuhg my blog. My friends call me as a .NET Addict. My collegues call me as official .NET Debugging machine. :-). Eventhough I make decent money, I can not afford to have my own MSDN subscription, and so forget about VSTS. I got a copy of MSDN through my employer, but that would not be sufficient for me to do something beyond office hours. If I could get VSTS for free, then I would definately tell you something which I am developing at my personal time, (I am not going to disclose this one until I complete it), would be free to the .NET Communities.

Comments: I prefer MS products over other products, I always have. The problem is funding. Everyone has the same woes about funding especially the government industries. We are only allowed a certain budget for each physical year and needless to say, when I requested funds for SQL server 2005 and VSTS I was declined due to the pricing constraints of buying a new server. Neverless, I am determined and still trying to aquire the funds for a license with MSDN and to purchase VSTS and may have to do so out of my own pocket just to use the best software so far I have seen on the market. The government has agreed if I buy the software I can use it, and I feel it is a great importance for us to be current. I can beg, I can plead, I can get on my knees, and I can tell you that you would be the nicest and kindest person alive, but I don't want to lie to you, I don't even know you personally, but if you did give me these wonderful things, I can assure you, I would think that of you and the world. Please consider me, I am praying for this and crossing my fingers, but I won't hold my breath just in case!

Comments: I'm working in a top university research centre. Here people will laugh at you when you want money to buy powerful dev tools. All they will say is "why not use JAVA/Perl/MySQL etc?". Fortunately we a small team managed to develop a whole solution for the centre's research project by using pure MS products. We started from classic ASP to using .NET 2002 then 2003. At that time we can still afford the VS.net pro even MSDN Universe through Educational price offer. When 2005 is out, everything is changed. The price listed for us is only half of the RRP?! Since we are a very cute team, everybody need to wear many hats. Only VSTS can provide all the features we need as indivduals. We have long ago planned to upgrade and further develop our MS solution when 2005 is out. Maybe even get it published in research journals. People won't understand just how difficult to get a paper published if you mention your solution is on top of MS products. So that the new price is really suprised me a lot. Don't know if MS no longer interested in academe. Now I have a feeling that people like us should get double paid by MS, since why should we bother to do things differently with others. When everybody is happy with Penguin, why pay MS? Yes, one more thing to share with people, you may not believe it: saying your solution is using Oracle as database will increase your chance to be published, if you dare to say SQL Server, the chance is going down, down deep. Finger crossed that our solution can still go on with MS products.

Comments: I am half owner in a consulting company that is being built on the Dave Ramsey principals; we don’t borrow money, ever! That means we are growing the business slower than most other businesses in our field. We have been using Team System in our 9 to 5 jobs for the past few months and have fallen in love with it capabilities. Our firm has just landed a contract that looks like it could allow us to start working as consultants fulltime but we do not currently have the tools required to do that. The express editions are great, but they will only take you so far.

Comments: I have been an independent I.T. consultant for several years now. I'm currently recruiting U.S.-based consultants who are either out of work or who have experienced rate cuts and require after-hours work, to perform in-house development. I have a procurement company that is taking up my life savings to kick-off, but the future outlook appears good. Having a financial background, I came up with a good scheme to be able to pay my consultants well, and still compete with much offshore competition. I'm mostly acting as a PM on these projects, due to the immense coordination required between these designers/developers and BA's. Reviewing the specs on this Team coordination software, I believe this could help me and my people become even more competitive and allow me to get involved in more of the technical activities, as much of the PM activities I perform today are automated in the application. We're a small band of I.T. professionals without much room in our budget for immediate capital expenditures. Getting up-to-date with the Team software and an MSDN subscription at no extra cost would go a long way with our ability to be innovative, efficient and consequently even more competitive. Comments: I believe the team I work with deserves this prize because our current setup is half-assed due to budget constraints and management not understanding our software needs. We currently are running subversion as our source control on a Pentium II computer stashed in the corner of our office. We don't have any way to share our code, and we have multiple copies of libraries and code on each developer's computer. Our graphics department has to email us changes that need updating on our site, because they don't have any method of pushing updates. We are also adding at least one more developer (hopefully two) to our team in the coming months, and would like to have a more complete/concrete development process. Unit testing is almost non-existent with our projects spread out and unorganized. With the pace our company is growing, we need the proven tools to help us manage that growth, rather than relying on a completely disjointed set of applications. (p.s. I’m from Erie, does that help me at all?)

Comments: What's real reason MS is not hip to the internet? The cutting edge of the web is using tubby on tracks and LIGHT. We need to prove to the web that MS can not just get down and boogie with the cool dudes, but outdance the youngsters. Our web 2.0 application is going to send them home to their mummies because it’s built on the rock of SQL server using reinforced c#. Microsoft gave them asynchronous HTTP, now we are going to show the web how to really use it.

Comments: With VSTS I’m going to develop some projects for my customers and some project and sometimes I’m going to work non-profit and, why not?, for leverage the IT technology of the world. I think I could really use these specific features of Visual Studio Team System, included the new SQL database, the unit testing, the visio and the MSDN subscription. Comments: My company uses VS 2003/Vault/Fogbugz to create some super cool stuff (.NET processing terabytes of data, http://go.pictology.com). Getting Team Suite would allow us to free $ to use for more SQL Server licenses. We'll still be eating rice/beans, using doors for desks, etc., but we would be able to have some kick ass development tools along with money for beer.

Comments: Why I need to win this prize? Oh how do I count the ways? However I’ll share the three main reasons: 1. VSTS: our organisation so desperately needs to introduce this version of Visual Studio to dig ourselves out of the unorganised ditch we’re constantly in. 2. MSDN Subscription: we always get the bare minimum to get by; it would be so nice to actually have access to the wealth of resources offered by this subscription. 3: I’m generally responsible for introducing new technology, and I’d really love to have some ammunition to win those battles with. Comments: Reason #1: I'm a small ISV, currently developing software for local sports clubs, entertainment venues and most recently providing the code back-end for a stock photography site. Upgrading to VS2005 from VS2003 would prove invaluable to my business, sure to improve efficiency and productivity. In short: I need it to help me stay afloat and perhaps eventually expand!

Comments: I have several uses for an MSDN subscription.

I want to start my own businesses (note: plural), and all of the software would be developed using Microsoft technologies. The added features of Visual Studio 2005 would speed up the development cycle.

I attend a local community college where I am also a Computer Science tutor. It would be nice to whip out my laptop and show aspiring developers alternatives to LAMP and Java.

My four year old told me that if he cannot write stored procedures in C#, he will go on a hunger strike. You cannot allow this. :)

Comments: Well, I don't really want to beg, plead or whine. So, that leaves justification. I recently got married and am looking to start a family. Having access to these tools would help me expand my skillset so that I will stay more marketable, longer. If I can do that, and make a decent living, I can support my family better and leave less stress for my wife and allow her to choose whether she wants to work or not rather than being forced. I don't have any determination to change the world with my programming, just to take care of my family.

Comments: My team and I are currently working on a community based web project that would allow people to share information relevant to there likes for free and in a easy to use fashion. Sort of like Open Directory but more user involved.

Considering the sheer costs of hosting and other things, the subscription would be very helpful for my team and cut out much more of the overhead associated with the project and allow us to concentrate on using the products that we want to use without the restrictions that otherwise would arise.

We are doing this without the intention of making any other then what is required to maintain the site and hopefully pay the people working on it; if we do profit, great. That is not the intention though.

Also, considering that it is a community based effort, everything will be documented as a case study of sorts so that others can learn what’s needed to create and maintain such a site; all the ups and downs and everything in the middle.

Comments: Patrick, wow, what a generous offer. I've been working from home last 18 months doing contract work mostly for non-profits like www.madd.org and www.jointogether.org. They don't use .NET, but a sub-site of MADD does - www.madd.org/tuhijo) My MSDN Universal subscription expired about a year ago and I can't afford to renew. Just started using DotNetNuke on a few sites and plan to use it for more - especially for small organizations and other non-profits. I'd like to keep working from home to help my wife with the home-schooling/supervision of our nine - soon to be ten children - and to keep developing our farm. Comments: VSTS seems to be complete business solution provider, since Softwares targeting Financial Domains face the problems maximum due to fast requirement,alogrithimic changes and tracebility is lost over prolonged software usage since Design,Development,Maintainance is handled independently with different tools. Betas reveal VSTS as complete solution package and any user doesnt have to study multiple tools,tracking systems. I have projected to my seniors and they have asked me provide a demo, i would just like to have one license. I bank on VSTS in the future as Microsoft is looking into AOP where even i belive Business Analysts could use this tool.
