One of the features that Windows 2003 brought to the forefront is the Http.sys kernel mode device driver. What this means is all HTTP traffic is routed through this driver then onto the application that will process this. ASP.NET 1.1 and 2.0 both make use of this in the Worker Process model on Windows 2003.
