The one thing I've always like working on and about this site, is the full text search engine and spider. Bascially it goes out and spiders all the major development blogs on the web, and then indexes them. The engine uses Lucene for it's index. Lucene is another open source project and it works really fast.

Currently the directory is indexed, and the rss feeds are underway. We're talking about a lot of content, but once it's done you'll be able to pull podcasts, and videos as they get posted to blogs, and of course the latest posts.

DotNetNuke is a Versatile open source web application framework ideal for creating, deploying and managing interactive web, intranet and extranet sites.

Patrick Santry was an original core team member and on the first Board of Directors for the DotNetNuke project. He has also co-authored two books on DotNetNuke.
In this session Patrick will introduce you to DotNetNuke, how to set up your development environment, and creating a module for your DotNetNuke portal.

WPF/E and XAML

Are you ready for the next step in web development. Microsoft released Silverlight (still the beta release), but we're seeing some great examples of this technology. A serious contender to Flash (actually not even in the same class), but you can now work hand in hand with designers and put your code behind some really sharp looking applications. Controls can be rendered in vector format in either 2D and some simulated 3D (real 3D support is coming though). The idea is this plug-in is cross-browser and has a small install (about 1MB).

Be sure to check out the samples on the Silverlight site to see how XAML is really ready to go. Just think of the possibilities having a high fidelity interface and being able to put some AJAX and .NET code behind it all.

Day of .NET in Michigan

I was chatting with Jason Follas over in the NW Ohio, MI area and he informed me of a new event coming to the area. This one is called Day of .NET. I went to the CodeMash event they held last month, and it was a great turnout, so I'm sure this one will be an awesome event as well. New DotNetNuke Site

No this site isn't aimed at DNN content. Rather it's a fan site for a band called Jonas Brothers. The reason I'm bringing this up in my blog is because my daughter is following in my footsteps and built a DNN site. She did the entire site, created the graphics in PhotoShop, developed the skin in DreamWeaver, and packaged it up and uploaded it to DNN. All she came to me was for advice and an occasional question.

This kind of says something for DNN, she is only 14 years old, and was able to figure it out mostly on her own. I'm sure genetics come into play somewhere. ;-)

Now she's talking about developing her own modules.
